ETYMOLOGY

These slim legged drop crotch trousers are a modern take on the harem trousers which have origins from countries such as Persia, Middle East, North Africa, Turkey and south-east Asia all exhibiting their own versions until French military recruits incorporated the style into their uniforms whilst being posted in North Africa. the drop crotch trousers then made it across to Europe. Paul Poiret incorporated harem pant detail into his collection for which he was criticised as it was deemed inappropriate at the time.
