THE ITALIAN JOB

My name is Georg. but in Italy they call me Giorgio...

Throughout my 9 years with Vivienne Westwood, I discovered an alignment between my own work ethic and the Italian approach of producing clothes - a passion and an embracing of beauty combined with a positive attitude and enjoyment in this artisanal craftsmanship.

THE POAN FAMILY TEAM

When I embarked on my mission to build POAN - PEOPLES OF ALL NATIONS - it was clear to me that the epicentre of the production would be in Florence. I quickly formed the Italian team - Laura & Paola - who would help me to discover family-run, artisanal workshops with whom we work to produce our collections.

LIMITED EDITION

We make Limited Edition runs of our LOVE STORY collection pieces, in which only 3-7 repetitions of each design are ever produced.

If the fashion industry were the Goliath, we are the David of high fashion.

 - Now it is my pleasure to introduce some of our family and friends in Italy with whom we make our beautiful clothes -

OUR APPROACH TO SUSTAINABILITY

Chapter I

"THE ITALIAN JOB"

SOCIAL

SUSTAINABILITY

We focus on working with small, often family run artisan workshops in Italy, with whom we have strong and personal relationships. This helps us to not only guarantee the superior quality of our luxury products, but also to know that fair work environments are in place.

Chapter II

"THE GREAT BEAUTY"

ENVIRONMENTAL

SUSTAINABILITY

The majority of our high-end packaging, which we reuse in house, is sourced sustainably and is recyclableWe reduce waste in a number of ways ranging from taking a ”handmade” approach in cutting and pattern cutting to reworking leftover stock fabrics from the industry and reinterpreting our own stock.

ENVIRONMENTAL

SUSTAINABILITY

Most of our high-end packaging is recyclable, reused in-house and offers a multi-purpose reuse for our clients. We prevent waste through our ”handmade” approach in cutting and pattern cutting and also creatively rework leftover stock fabrics from the industry and reinterpret stock.

Chapter III

"THE SILENCE OF LAMBS"

ETHICAL

SUSTAINABILITY

POAN loves animals (our founder Georg is a vegetarian himself). As such, we never use fur, leather or feathers in any of our products.

MEET OUR SUPPLIERS

MAKING DENIMS THAT LAST WITH

NICOLETTA, FRANCESCO & MAURO

With SIMPLY JEANS, we eat zuppa and listen to Italian 80s radio. I cannot wait to try the new prototypes on in the bathroom. "Facciamo cosi", "ma che bello' are the most common phrases ringing out in the family workshop.

MAKING THE MOST BEAUTIFUL KNITWEAR

WITH GIOVANNA, LARZIA & DANIELE

With IL SOFFIO, we eat pasta and talk about the world. When Giovanna hand-knits one of our iconic 'Biker Jackets' and her daughter Larzia, who has studied fine art in Florence, hand paints them I feel like together, we are doing something truly unique.

MAKING SURE IT FITS & MOVES... THE ART OF PATTERN CUTTING WITH ALESSIA

With ARTI 21, we have an espresso ristretto. No time to loose as we make the final adjustments to the patterns for the new couture dresses with Alessia. Paola has no time to waste and is always on the run.

MAKING THE IMPOSSIBLE POSSIBLE WITH

MARIA-ROSA & STEFANO

At MEHARI's, the phrase 'non e possibile' does not appear in the vocabulary of Stefano. We make the most beautiful womenswear with the best Italian tailoring knowledge.
